The very latest Heroes spoilers
Sorry guys. Part 2 of the Peter Petrelli picspam will have to wait (Part 1 is here), because my brain has been eaten by Heroes spoilers, which are coming in thick and fast.

We've had the latest NBC promo, the latest casting spoiler, and Kristin's latest spoiler chat at E!Online...

So, what do you want to talk about? XD

On Kristen Bell being cast in Heroes, and the shot of Kinky!Handcuffed!Peter...

I can't stop thinking about these spoilers. What we know:

1. Kristen Bell has been cast as a guest star for a multi-episode arc on Heroes.

2. Her character "has ties to the supposed death of Peter, H.R.G.’s past and the future of Claire."

3. Kristen is signed for 13 episodes, but with the possibility of adding more. Her character will have a "really cool power."

Like I said to [info]wee_warrior: They had me at this sentence. Really. It could have continued: "Kristen Bell's character has ties to the supposed death of Peter, HRG's past and the future of Claire. She will then unleash an army of green monkeys on the world and make everyone worship Spike," and I would still be squeeing.

A plotline that ties together my three favorite characters, and Kristen Bell? I still can't believe it. I could not love this spoiler more if it had been tailor made for me. *happy sigh* No seriously, I'm starting to get nervous because according to the karmic laws of the universe, something bad is going to happen to me soon.

Thoughts on and/or prompted by this spoiler:

  • [info]vonnie_k came up with some spec that would make me die with glee if it actually happened:

Actually, I wonder whether the writers might hook up her character with Peter's. The idea gives me a chuckle, because you know Veronica would laugh and laugh at Peter's emo manpain.

Dude. I am trying not to get my hopes up too high, because...But dude. Can you imagine the mad chemistry Milo and Kristen would have with each other? Can you imagine the pretty? Can you imagine Kristen's character being all competent and kickass and hardcore, and the delicious contrast with Peter's idealistic woobie-ness? I'm not hoping for shippiness--that would be asking for too much, and it would be hard to put my brain back together after it exploded with joy. But please, oh please, at least let them have a few scenes together. (There is also a tiny part of me that believes the producers are trying to capitalize on the sucess of the last time they paired Peter up with a tiny, perky blonde. Only this time, you know, they decided to make it legal. *puts on tinhat* And if the results are anywhere near as good this time around, I will be a happy, happy fan.)

Hey, a girl can dream, right?

  • I think that Kristen's character is going to be responsible for convincing everyone that Peter really is dead. Because if you were Nathan or Claire or Angela, would you believe he was dead just because you couldn't find him? HELL NO. You'd pack your stuff and go looking, because Peter could not be dead, and you wouldn't rest until you had found him and rescued him and brought him back, goddammit! So I'm thinking that Bell's character will be working for the company and keeping tabs on Peter while providing some kind of evidence to trick everyone into thinking he died in the explosion.

I would prefer her character not to have powers. I want her to be a mixture of HRG and Audrey, but with a harder edge: competent, ruthless, and wary of trusting anyone other than herself, because she can carry out a job better than anybody.

And this just got jossed. In an interview with TVGuide, here, Kristen confirms that she has a "really cool power," and says she'll be on for 13 episodes, maybe longer depending on how things go. She doesn't reveal much else, though, other than the fact that she knows pretty much everything about her character's storyline.

  • I think the clip/screencap of kinky handcuffed Peter from the promo (see below) pretty much confirms that he's the amnesiac. Brilliant. Imagine the possibilities, not only for him gaining control of his powers (now he doesn't have Nathan to fall back on, but he doesn't have the insecurities and Daddy Issues either, so I'm guessing his superpowers are going to be out in full force), but for what's going to happen when he gets his memories back. OMG.

[info]mimesh pointed out that the Heroes costume designer is living up to her promise to show Milo off as much as possible. XD

  • Actually, I've been wondering for a while now if it isn't going to be Claire who causes Peter to recover his memories, rather than Nathan. Even I've watched enough TV to know that it's going to be some emotional climax or revelation that's going to end Peter's amnesia, but until now I was certain that it would be Nathan.

The whole thing hinges for me on how concerned Kring and Co. really are with emotional continuity from Season 1. Because if they are really hell-bent on starting afresh so new viewers can jump into Season 2, then I would bet my money on a Peter-Nathan reunion as the trigger for Peter getting back his memories, because it's the obvious choice. It's also easy for new viewers to understand and appreciate, without knowing the backstory.

BUT: I don't always believe what Kring and Co. tell the press. The spoiler about West being able to fly, for example, made me certain that the writers/producers are going to toss in a great deal for the faithful viewers coming in from Season 1, as well. They could have given West any cool power. But no, they deliberately choose to duplicate a power that will bring up all of Claire's issues with Bennet, Nathan, and Peter. That's no accident. That's some hardcore emotional continuity, and I love it.

If this is a sign of the way TPTB are going to tackle things, then there are distinct clues in Season 1 that Claire will end Peter's amnesia. Now, I'm not very good at spec, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and write this down anyway. (Maybe I'll look back in December and giggle over how completely wrong I was. *g*)

One of the most traumatic things that happened to Claire in Season 1 was losing Zach. At that point he was her only friend, the person she trusted completely, the person who supported her in all her freakishness. After the Haitian mindwipes him, Claire is distraught: it affects her more deeply than almost anything else in her life at that point. And then she films herself again, falling off the tower, so "I'll never forget who I am." Identity is important to Claire. Finding out who she is was one of the most important elements of her character arc in Season 1. To Claire, losing your memory is a terrible thing: it almost destroyed her mother, it almost happened to her, it cost her Zach. Sure, she told him everything again, but it wasn't the same.

Imagine now, how she'd react, if Peter's lost his memory, if he couldn't recognize her. It would be like losing Zach all over again--losing a part of herself all over again, because with Peter she found a friend, an ally, family. It would probably hit her like a ton of bricks.

So, from a storytelling perspective, from a character development perspective, it would make sense if Claire got Peter his memory back. How would she do it?

More crazy spec: she gets him to go up someplace with her, really, really high, and they jump.

Why? Because that echoes three pivotal moments for Peter in Season 1. Jumping off the roof in the pilot, and Nathan catching him. Falling off the school building in Homecoming with Sylar, and dying for the first time. Being thrown off the roof by Claude in Distractions, and consciously using his powers for the first time, because he remembers Claire.

Claire wouldn't know this, of course. But she might do it out of instinct, or for some other reason. And there would be a wonderful kind of symmetry with the events in Season 1 if, as he fell, and got up, and they both regenerated, Peter recovered his memories.

    OK, I'll stop babbling now.

On Kristin's Spoiler Chat at E!Online

  • One major character is presumed dead in the season premiere (but isn't), but another will die in that very same episode! Also, there's another huge threat targeting all the Heroes that is far less attractive than Sylar.

    My guesses:

Character presumed dead: Peter. This is pretty much a given. [info]cadesama specs that the shot of Peter in the cage/crate will probably be the final shot of the season premiere. I would bet good money that she is right.

Character who will die: No idea. I'm guessing DL. It's implausible that he would have died from his bullet wounds at Kirby Plaza if Matt lived, so I'm betting that he is taken out by Linderman's henchmen for killing their boss.

  • Claire's gonna have a new looove interest named West, and while she'll try to lay low at her new Cali school, the raging teenage hormones will get in the way. Hayden's hot hot hottie onscreen father Jack Coleman tells us: "It's fair to say that Claire does have a romance this year, and it's going to bring us into conflict." Mmmm...Daddy's not happy!

We pretty much knew this already.

  • We caught up with James Kyson Lee at Hot in Hollywood, and he said, "Lots of things to look forward to in season two, including a new look for Ando...We'll probably move on from the Members Only jacket. And there's going to be parallel times, the modern time and the ancient Japan, so I'm going in the present day, going back and forth between New York and Japan, and there's going to be some kind of connection between me and Hiro...But you have to wait until Sept. 24 to find out."

Connection between Ando and Hiro! Yay! The friendship lives on!
