2:36 pm - Heroes Picspams!
|
Some of you may have noticed that I started a "Favorite Heroes Things" series of posts, beginning with fic recs here and vid recs here.
And since this is officially the cutest and hottest cast ever, I'm devoting an entire post to picspams. So I give you: my absolute favorite picspams with a Heroes connection.
Disclaimer: I hope the people whom I link to are OK with me pimping their posts. If you'd like me to remove your LJ/website from the list, drop me a line at rout345 [at] yahoo [dot] com and I'll do so immediately, no worries. :-)
( Warning: You may overdose on the pretty. Season 1 spoilers, of course. )

4:34 pm - Heroes Season 2 Wishlist
|
After the season finale of Heroes aired, I pretty much had only one wish for Season 2, and that was ( Spoiler for season finale )
As long as that happened, I wouldn't have cared if every episode was a musical episode, or if they'd introduced a dancing baby a la Ally McBeal.
But then the weeks went by, and inevitably I started getting more demanding. So here is my ( Wishlist for Heroes Season 2. SPOILERS for next season in the post and comments. )
Completely Random Note: Almost all of my posts have the mood "contemplative." This has little to do with my actual mood, and much more to do with my love of the scene used in my mood-theme. *points*

11:56 am - Pictures from Comic-Con!
|
So...pictures have started coming up from Comic-Con. These are the only hi-res ones I've found so far, but I'm sure more will be posted soon.
The images are sized down as thumbnails--click on them for the full size images.
( In which there is much chemistry among the Petrellis. )
- Dear Hayden and Milo: maybe people would be less inclined to ship your characters if you did not have so much chemistry. :-)
- OMG Look at Adrian's hair. Hee!
- Somehow, looking at Milo and Zach side by side cracks me up. Maybe because Zack is HUGE and looks quite scary, with eyebrows of DOOOM, while Milo looks like a little kid.
-
monanotlisa, I'm afraid the entire cast shot down Peter/Claire as a possibility at the con, though they acknowledge the chemistry:
An Australian fan queried Panettiere about the much-discussed Peter/Claire chemistry. Ventimiglia: “They…are…related. End of story. I’m flattered, but…” Panettiere pointed out the age difference between her and Ventimiglia, and asked, “Which is creepier, the fact that he’s my uncle, or the fact that there’s….” Ventimiglia replied, “Uncle. Uncle.” He then pointed out that the characters had “hooked up” on the level that they had an emotional, caring, protective relationship, along with a strong bond.
Source here.
I can understand why Milo in particular might feel a little awkward--it's not like the HoYay ships, where there's nothing really illegal going on. He's in the uncomfortable position of being shipped with a girl who's underage, and the smallest sign of being seen encouraging or even condoning the ship could be misinterpreted by the media. I mean, I understand and sympathize with people who enjoy the ship (hell, *I* enjoy the ship) but I can also understand why the cast and crew are so much more uncomfortable being asked about Peter/Claire than they are about, say, Petrellicest.

OK, I wasn't going to post again so soon, but...

SPOILERS in the comments, in case it wasn't obvious. *G*

aelora, with pics and summaries, and SPOILERS. Apparently Jeph Loeb brought up Petrellicest! OMG I love this show.

OK, in the first clip it totally looks like Hayden is flirting with Milo. I'm not imagining this, am I? monanotlisa, you'll probably get a squee out of that. *g*
ETA: In Milo's interview, he says he was at Adrian's son's 6th birthday party! Awww....

5:55 pm - Heroes Vid Recs!
|
After watching all the wonderful videos, and reading all the wonderful articles, about the Heroes panel at Comic-Con, it occurred to me that in the frenzy over Deathly Hallows I've been neglecting the Heroes fandom a bit. Bad fangirl!
So I bring you...the next installment in the series of My Favorite Things in the Heroes fandom: VIDS!
Vividcon is coming up soon, and I'm sure there'll be quite a few Heroes vids in this year's batch. I'll rec those separately after the con, but right now I'm making a recs post with all the Heroes related vids that I've seen loved so far. I'm pretty picky about the vids I keep in my Favorite folder, and these are all top-notch.
Disclaimer: I hope the people whom I link to are OK with me pimping their vids. If you'd like me to remove your vid from the list, drop me a line at rout345 [at] yahoo [dot] com and I'll do so immediately, no worries. :-)

10:47 am - Heroes Fic Recs Mega Post
|
It's a long, hot summer: what's a fangirl with no new canon to do? Read fic, watch vids, and obsess over meta, of course! I've decided to do a series of My Favorite Things from the Heroes Fandom posts. There will be a post each for:
- Fics.
- Picspams.
- Vids.
- Meta.
To start with, here's a recs post with my favorite Heroes fics. I'm not going to list all my favorites here, because the post would become way too long. Think of this as a taster course, with the very best from my very favorite authors, and if you see something you like, head on over to my Memories section and find more stuff by them. You can find the posts categorized as heroes: fic - author. Fic by authors who've only written one or two things for this fandom, or those whom I read more selectively, can be found in heroes: fic.
Disclaimer: I hope the people whom I link to are OK with me pimping their fanfiction. If you'd like me to remove your LJ/website from the list, drop me a line at rout345 [at] yahoo [dot] com and I'll do so immediately, no worries. :-)

12:19 pm - The Myth of Nathan-dislike?
|
I was talking with cadesama, wee_warrior and mimesh about perceptions of Nathan Petrelli in the mainstream fandom/media, and mimesh said this:
Interestingly enough the audience seemed much more willing to forgive HRG past sins and embrace him as a character than they have been with Nathan. At least that's my impression from the reactions I have read. I agree with wee_warrior that most of it probably stems from his behavior earlier in the season, i.e. his infidelity and hurting Peter but I'm still puzzled why people are so much harder on him than on other morally grey characters.
There's some interesting discussion about this over here in cadesama's LJ, among other things (Spoilers for Season 2).
But it got me thinking: is fandom harder on Nathan, as a rule? Maybe it's just the corner of fandom that I spend my time in, but from what I can see, fandom loves Nathan. Even more than it loves Bennet. There are a few TV reviewers who criticized him at the beginning of the show, (or rather, criticized his behavior), but they're casual viewers who have to watch about 20 TV shows a week.
So is the widespread Nathan-dislike a myth? Or am I just living in the Pro-Nathan corner of fandom?
ETA: I think that maybe my point wasn't really clear the first time around, so what I'm trying to say is this--I don't believe that the dislike of Nathan in fandom is as widespread as it's commonly believed to be. He actually seems to be a very popular character, and I'd go as far as to say that the perception of "Nathan's disliked for his moral ambiguity" is now completely irrelevant: it may have been so in the 1st half of the season, but it certainly doesn't seem to be the case now.

12:14 pm - Heroes HoYay!
|
So, I told mimesh and monanotlisa a few days ago:
I'm not putting together a post compiling all the HoYay-tastic commentaries/behind the scenes photos I've got lurking on my hard drive. No, I'm not. *whistles*
The result? This post.
Heroes is a strange fandom. It *does* things to me. For example, before Heroes I had never had a slash ship/OTP. I'd never encountered a slash pairing that got me in the gut the way my other OTPs (Ron/Hermione, Buffy/Angel, Ged/Tenar, Jo/Laurie) did. I was mildly interested in Remus/Sirius, and dabbled a little in Booth/Hodgins (because lostakasha's fic is so fantastic), but that was about it. I was also completely skeeved out by incest and RPS.
How times have changed.
Blame Milo. And Adrian. And Hayden. And Sendhil and Dennis Hammer and Tim Kring.
Because Heroes is the most HoYay-tastic fandom I've ever encountered, and resistance is useless. I don't know how they do it, but the hottest ships on this show are either incestuous (Peter/Claire) or unbelievably screwed-up (Sylar/Mohinder), or both (Peter/Nathan). Not only do we have HoYay (Peter/Mohinder, Hiro/Ando), we also have BroYay (Petrellis!), MeYay (PastPeter/PresentPeter, PresentHiro/FutureHiro, and various combinations thereof once they get their powers under control), Long-lost-relative-Yay (Peter/Claire), MortalEnemyYay (Peter/Sylar), and SerialKillerWhoKilledMyFatherRoyallyMessedUpYay (Mylar).
I think one of the reasons why the HoYay is so much fun in this fandom is because the cast and crew are enjoying it as much as we are. No, really, they are. They're totally messing with us.
You want evidence? (Some of the images were too big to put in unformatted--click on the thumbnails for full-size files.)
( Behind the Scenes on Heroes: Spoilers for Season 1 only )
And as if the photographic evidence wasn't enough, we also have...( The HoYay-tastic Commentaries. Spoilers for Season 1 only. )
( And the HoYay-tastic interviews...(Spoiler about Peter's fate after the finale) )
( And even outsiders can see the Petrellicest... )
So...in conclusion...most HoYay-tastic fandom ever. And I love the fact that the cast and crew seem to be enjoying it as much as we are.
Just to be safe, a Disclaimer: Yes, I realize incest is squicky. Yes, I realize a lot of people are squicked by RPS. And I completely agree that siblings going at it in real life *is* disturbing. But these are fictional characters, who also happen to have an unbelievable level of chemistry, and I enjoy watching the pretty. And the sparks. It doesn't mean that I want them to go there on the show, but I enjoy the subtext. And did I mention the pretty?
ETA: How could I forget this? An icon made by jadeblood, showing us what Peter might think on finding out he's the fandom's little black dress:
